Sensor, not tank, is off by 5 gallons Posted on May 11th
Q: All of Toyota’s literature (owner’s manual, advertising, etc.) says the Sienna mini-van has a 21-gallon fuel tank.
If I take my 2006 model to empty—as evidenced not only by the gas gauge but also the 2 miles “distance to empty” on the trip computer—I can squeeze in only 16 gallons at the filling station.
The dealer confirmed there is nothing wrong with my tank and said that’s “just how it’s designed,” that 21 gallons is the size of the tank, not the usable capacity.
I understand the need for some room for thermal expansion, but this variance seems excessive. What say you?
