Less is more in winter car care Posted on October 28th
Winter’s coming but it’s not the chore it used to be.
We no longer split and stack firewood. We no longer replace the screens with storm windows. We don’t larder up with salted or smoked meats. We don’t stock up on preserved vegetables. And we don’t have to change the antifreeze.
That’s right. We don’t have to change the antifreeze—or do many other tasks to get our car ready for snow time.
When antifreeze contained methanol, which would boil as temperatures rose, it had to be drained before summer and replaced before winter—along with the engine’s thermostat.
